Milan capitalised on a red card shown to Lecce’s Jamil Siebert in the first half, adding goals from Santiago Gimenez, Nkunku and Christian Pulisic to seal a comfortable 3-0 win. The French forward’s strike came midway, giving Milan breathing room and allowing them to dictate play for the rest of the match.

The Frenchman arrived this summer from Chelsea for a reported fee of €42 million (£36.2m/$49m), signing a five-year deal until 2030. His time in London was halted by injuries and limited appearances, making it difficult for him to settle into the squad under Enzo Maresca. The move to Milan has offered the 27-year-old a fresh start and a chance to reset expectations.

Nkunku happy with start at Milan

Speaking to after the game, Nkunku said: "I feel good and I’m determined to play even more, I’m working to feel even better. I feel comfortable here. I received a great welcome, and everyone makes me feel good, from the staff to my teammates to the fans. I’m happy to play for Milan."

The forward went on to praised the team's collective performance, saying: "It was a good match today from everyone, a great performance, scoring three goals and conceding none. We’re happy to have advanced."
